Used Ford Mustang GT for Sale in Phoenix

Last updated April 2026By Akash Chhabra, Owner

The Ford Mustang GT is the naturally aspirated V8 variant of the Mustang, powered by Ford's 5.0L Coyote V8. It has been built in two modern generations: S550 (2015 to 2023, 435 to 460 horsepower) and S650 (2024 and newer, 480 horsepower base, 500 horsepower Dark Horse). Every GT is rear-wheel drive with a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.

The Naturally Aspirated V8 Mustang

The Mustang GT is the naturally aspirated V8 variant of the Mustang, sitting between the base EcoBoost and the supercharged Shelby GT500. Every GT is powered by Ford's 5.0L Coyote V8, an engine widely regarded as one of the most reliable modern performance V8s thanks to its dual-cam, dual-variable-valve-timing architecture and proven durability past 200,000 miles in daily service.

Mustang GT trims have expanded substantially over the past decade. The 2015 launch of the S550 chassis introduced independent rear suspension to the GT for the first time, producing 435 horsepower. The 2018 refresh upgraded the Coyote to Gen 3 with direct + port injection, bumping output to 460 horsepower. The 2024 S650 launch introduced an entirely new chassis with 480 horsepower in the GT and 500 horsepower in the Dark Horse trim.

Arizona Elite Motors hand-selects every Mustang GT in our inventory for mechanical condition, documented service history, and cosmetic quality. We also carry modified, supercharged, and tastefully built GTs - the Coyote V8 is one of the most supercharger-friendly platforms on the market, with Roush, Whipple, Procharger, and Vortech kits all well-supported.

FAQ

Ford Mustang GT Frequently Asked

How much horsepower does a Mustang GT make?

Pre-2018 S550 Mustang GTs make 435 horsepower. 2018 to 2023 Mustang GTs with the Gen 3 Coyote make 460 horsepower. The 2024 and newer S650 Mustang GT makes 480 horsepower, and the Dark Horse trim makes 500 horsepower.

Is the Ford Mustang GT reliable?

The Coyote V8 is considered one of the most reliable modern performance V8s. Common service items include oil changes every 7,500 miles, spark plug replacement every 60,000 miles, and periodic differential fluid service. Both the 10-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmissions have proven records past 150,000 miles in regular service.

Can the Coyote V8 handle a supercharger?

Yes. The Coyote V8 is one of the most supercharger-friendly modern V8s. Kits from Roush, Whipple, Procharger, and Vortech are widely supported, with 600 to 800 horsepower achievable on stock internals with proper tuning and supporting fuel upgrades. Arizona Elite Motors regularly stocks and sources supercharged Mustang GT builds.

Should I buy a manual or automatic Mustang GT?

The 6-speed manual (MT-82) is the enthusiast choice and preserves resale value on S550 and S650 cars. The 10-speed automatic (introduced in 2018) is faster in a straight line, offers paddle shifters, and is preferred for daily driving. Both are reliable when maintained. Manual cars are harder to find - we typically have a mix on the floor.

What is the difference between a Mustang GT and a Shelby GT500?

The Mustang GT uses a naturally aspirated 5.0L Coyote V8 making 435 to 500 horsepower. The Shelby GT500 uses a supercharged 5.2L Predator V8 making 760 horsepower. GT500s are roughly twice the price of GTs, reflecting the forced-induction engine and hardware upgrades (brakes, cooling, aero, Tremec TR-9070 dual-clutch).

What year Mustang GT is the best value?

2018 to 2020 Mustang GTs offer the best balance for most buyers - the Gen 3 Coyote's 460 horsepower, 10-speed automatic or MT-82 manual, and mature S550 chassis at used prices. 2015 to 2017 cars are cheaper but make 25 horsepower less and have the pre-refresh interior. 2024+ S650 cars have the latest chassis and tech but carry a new-car premium.

Does Arizona Elite Motors carry modified Mustang GTs?

Yes. Arizona Elite Motors regularly stocks and sources modified Mustang GT builds, including supercharged, tuned, cammed, and suspension-upgraded examples. Every modification on our inventory comes with documentation where available. Call (480) 866-8000 for current modified inventory or to request a specific build spec.

How much does a used Mustang GT cost in Phoenix?

Pre-owned Mustang GT pricing in Phoenix typically ranges from the high $20,000s for higher-mileage 2015 to 2017 cars to the mid $40,000s for low-mile 2024 S650 examples. Modified and supercharged builds often price higher based on the build quality and documentation. Our current inventory is displayed above with transparent pricing.
